What Retail Buyers Want: Diabetes, Chronic Care & Adherence  8/1/2017

As part of their preparation for ECRM’s 60+ EPPS meetings, retail buyers complete a form on the EPPS prep site, indicating the subcategories they are buying for, and on what areas they are focusing their buying efforts.

Based on this information, collected from more than 100 buyers and category managers attending ECRM’s upcoming Diabetes/Clinical Programs, Chronic Care Management & Adherence Solutions EPPS meetings, here are a few key areas of interest:

Pharmacy-Store Connection: Perhaps more than anything else, buyers attending this EPPS are looking for products and related programs that will help them improve the connection between the pharmacy and the rest of the store, including OTC products, vitamins and supplements, diabetic supplies and equipment, diabetic skin care, and even food products that are related to the chronic care condition.

Diabetes/Chronic Care Solutions: Merchandising and marketing around diabetes and chronic care solutions, such as end caps, shippers, power wings, as well as promotional offers and in-store support.

Education: Diabetes and chronic care education that can be provided to these shoppers, particularly as part of or tied into the solutions mentioned above.

Self-Management Products: Products – such as monitors, medical supplies and equipment that enables the customer to provide self-care for their chronic conditions.

Innovation: Products and services that feature new advances in diabetes and chronic care that enable retailers to stay ahead of the curve in helping customers to better manage their conditions. These include new formulations as well as tapping into digital solutions such as apps for monitoring and tracking these conditions, or diets that are related to them.

Events: Many retailers offer events around chronic care conditions during which customers are educated on chronic care management and self-care, and buyers are looking for suppliers that can get involved in such events.
