Nielsen Study: Battle of the Sparkling Wines  1/26/2016


Bubbly. Sparkling Wine. Champagne. Prosecco.

No matter what you call it, a chilled glass of French-born Champagne or Italian-sourced prosecco is a little glass of heaven to those who drink it. That’s proven by sparkling wine sales in the U.S., which have been on an upward trend in recent years, showing 10% growth in the last 52 weeks ending Oct. 25, 2015.


While Champagne still dominates the sparkling wine market, prosecco is gaining ground. Some interesting differences bubbled up for this category prior to the holiday season, including:
  • Prosecco sales grew 36%, while Champagne sales grew 8%
  • Prosecco is only 14% of sparkling wine sales, while Champagne still accounts for 20%
